Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions do you treat?

I treat a range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. This includes back and neck pain, joint pain, muscle strains, sports injuries and rehabilitation following injury or surgery. I can also support people recovering from a stroke or living with certain neurological conditions, with treatment focused on improving movement, strength, balance, mobility and confidence with everyday activities.

Treatment is tailored to your individual needs, abilities and goals.

Do I need a GP referral to book physiotherapy?

No. You can book a physiotherapy appointment directly without seeing your GP first. If your symptoms suggest that further medical investigation or another healthcare professional is needed, this can be discussed during your assessment.

What happens during my first physiotherapy appointment?

Your first appointment will include a detailed discussion about your symptoms, injury history, lifestyle and goals. This is followed by a physical assessment of areas such as movement, strength, flexibility, balance and function. We will then discuss the findings and create a treatment and rehabilitation plan tailored to you.

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, how long you have had your symptoms, the severity of the problem and your goals. After your initial assessment, I will explain what I recommend and how your progress can be reviewed along the way.

Can physiotherapy help with sports injuries?

Yes. Physiotherapy can help with many sports-related injuries, including muscle strains, ligament injuries, joint pain and overuse problems. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, restoring movement and strength, and helping you return to your sport safely and confidently.

Can you help me return to running, the gym or sport after injury?

Yes. Rehabilitation can be tailored specifically to the activities you want to return to. Your programme may include strength, mobility, balance, conditioning and sport-specific exercises, with progressions based on how you are recovering.

What is the difference between physiotherapy and sports massage?

Physiotherapy involves assessing the cause and contributing factors behind pain, injury or movement problems and developing a structured treatment and rehabilitation plan. This may include exercise, education and hands-on treatment.

Sports massage focuses more specifically on soft-tissue treatment and can help with muscle tension, soreness and recovery. Depending on your needs, elements of both may be used as part of your treatment.
